Nelly's Article in Essence Magazine.

Nelly had an article featured in Essence Magazine at the beginning of October titled "Single Women Are Looking For the 'Perfect Guy.' Throughout the article Nelly commented on some key points when it comes to finding that "special someone." Nelly noted that not only do some people search for perfection but they also search for someone who will be "perfect" in society's eyes.

"I've seen girls turn down a nice guy because he didn't look the part, but
he was a great guy. He had the job, he treated her special, he did everything
she asked, but he didn't quite look the part. Then you got the guy that look the
part, but he ain't on the job." - Nelly

Nelly had made some valid points when it comes to the topic of relationship however; Nelly failed to acknowledge how men do the EXACT same thing. In today's society the perception of beauty in reference to females is light skin, long hair and light eyes. Whether that perception is being glamorized in music videos, song lyrics, television shows etc; light skin is viewed as superior or better than any other skin tone. I feel that one should seek beauty in another's personality, NOT just solely on appearance. Yes, there has to be some physical attraction when it comes to finding a mate but, that shouldn't be the only thing one considers when determining whether they like or love someone.
It is commonly understood that nice guys/girls finish last when it comes to relationships and in actuality it is true. The nice ones always get taken advantage of and get labeled as being "too soft" or "too clingy." Some people must understand that there is NOTHING wrong with someone treating you with lots of TLC. Ladies and Gentlemen please open your minds as well as your hearts.

Not Even Human by Angel Taylor

When I was watching the latest episode of the T.O Show; a song titled "Not Even Human" by Angel Taylor was played at the end of the episode! I love Angel's voice and the melody of the song. I recently went on youtube to hear some more of her music & after I heard a couple of her songs, I marked her new CD titled "Love Travels" as a "MUST HAVE"! Angel's music is different from what is being played on the radio today. "je ne sais quoi " or "that certain something" is what I use to describe her songs. It's original and catchy, she's definitely going to be on the rise soon.

Food For Thought

Today I stumbled across an interesting poem titled "You Say You Want A Good Man." The poem brings up some interesting points. Check it out:

"You Say You Want A Good Man...

You say you want a Good Man
And when it comes to finding one you won't.
Because when it comes to really wanting one,
Simply put; ladies you don't.
You say you want a Good Man
One that will always give you hugs,
But every time I turn around
You're always chasing after thugs.
You say you want a Good Man
Well I'm here to tell you that's not true
Because the last one that came your way,
Wasn't tall enough for you.
You say you want a Good Man
Cause you're tired of trifling mess
But you rolled your eyes at the last one
Because you didn't like the way he dressed.
You say you want a Good Man
One that will have you for his wife
Yet every time you come across one,
You say he's just too nice.
You say you want a Good Man
Now I'm not saying you should make him beg.
But a brother should at least know your first and last name
Before you open up your legs.
See if you try that with a Good Man,
In you he won't be pleased.
For he realizes, just like he could have,
Other brothers have had you with ease.
Now in order to get a Good Man
You need to listen; see it's in your favor.
Starting with the fact that no Good Man
Wants a woman who curses like a sailor.
And in your quest to find a Good Man
Listen as if it's Law.
You'll never find a good man,
If you always label him as a dog.
See a Good Man wants a woman
That expects to receive his best.
But you will never ever find one,
If you keep settling for less.
Now if you've found a man
That you think might be right for you.
You'll know he's not a Good man
If he won't go to church with you.
For in the life of a Good Man
You're not first, but don't take it hard.
See you're standing right there next to him,
But you're second after God.
So if you still would like a Good Man
One that will make you a real good husband.
There's only one thing left for you to do
And that's simply become a Good Woman"

Some R&R ......

Throughout the summer, I have been reading novels from some of my favorite author's such as; Eric J. Dickey, Terri McMillan, Zora Neal Hurston & the list goes on. This month I have been reading a book by Michael Baisden called God's Gift to Women. Baisden's sleek & sexy novel has the ability to captivate the hearts of single men & women everywhere. This is my first time ever reading one of Baisden's novel. To an extent, Baisden's style of writing is very similar to Eric Jerome Dickey's. This pretty much explains why I instantly fell in love with Baisden's novel. What I enjoy most about this novel is that Baisden created characters that everyone at some point in their life could relate to. Whether you were once a person who found it hard to love again after a heart shattering breakup; or even a person who once allowed their emotions to take complete and total control of their life; you can easily feel a personal connection between you and the author. There are other characters who epitomize common occurrences in one's life but; I'll leave that up to you to find out. Throughout the novel Baisden eloquently utilizes poetry to express the thoughts & feelings of a few of his characters. The book also has so many twist and turns that it is nearly impossible to become bored when reading this novel. I enjoy Baisden's predominate undertone of "never underestimate a pissed off women"which is so prominent in the novel.. Ladies and gentlemen if you are trying to find a book this summer that addresses common flaws and misconceptions in relationships; I highly recommend this novel.

Fashion Against AIDS

Fashion Against AIDS has always been one of my favorite campaigns since it's launching in 2008. Promoting the message of "Safe Sex" alongside fashion is a clever idea; for it increases H.I.V/AIDS awareness amongst our youth & inspires men, women and children all over the nation to get involved with the fight against AIDS. Fashion Against AIDS collaborates/works alongside H&M and has been released amongst 30 countries and over 1,000 stores worldwide. AIDS is an epidemic that has been claiming more & more lives as the years pass. I, myself have lost 2 family members who are near and dear to my heart to the AIDS epidemic; I strongly support HIV/AIDS awareness by any means necessary. Many well known artist are supporting the FAA campaign and have been showing their support by appearing on the covers of many FAA billboards as well as websites.

Here's a few:

Rihanna

Katy Perry
Ziggy Marley
& Many more
